The Aerospace industry is more competitive now than ever before with many projects and programs experiencing schedule delays and cost overruns. A solid manufacturing plan, coupled with the earned value management approach will maintain the schedule, cost, and align your planning with the tendered quote to your customer. EVA is a simple tool used to calculate current activity by measuring performance to the baseline quote, or expected behavior. Moreover, this approach allows any organization to “Quote a product as intended to be manufactured” and in turn “Manufacture the product as quoted”.
Monitoring the schedule and cost will identify variances, allow immediate correction and return back to the intended path while optimizing performance. This is crucial when profit margins are extremely low to compete with other suppliers. In addition, any long term agreement with OEM’s such as Boeing or Spirit generally require a reduction in a products sale price over the life span of the contract. A solid manufacturing plan monitored by EVA will identify areas to be leaned out earlier in the manufacturing phase as opposed to traditional methods of evaluating jobs when completed. This is commonly known as a “leading indicator methodology” as opposed to the traditional “Lagging indicator methodology”. EVA allows the learning curve of manufacturing products to be established early on by measuring and correcting while products are a “work in process mode”. The outputs of this process are increased profit margins allowing businesses to retain their statement of work as profitable when the dreaded “agreed upon” sale price reduction is enacted.
Another effective approach, once a product build has been leaned out, is to systematically place these products into the supply chain to manufacture outside of your business, thus lowering cost while increasing internal capacity and revenue. We offer a solid manufacturing source(s) that are AS9100 approved, or maintain other approved quality plans be-fitting to their company size, and will lower your cost exposure. To provide you with satisfaction and unburden your procurement departments, we offer a one stop solution. Merely place the agreed upon, target priced purchase order, and within your lead time, receive your products fully fabricated, machined and finish processed. This processing is performed by suppliers within applicable approved supplier listings such as Boeings “D1-4426”.
